12 July 2022- On the 40th anniversary of the motion picture Tron (released 9 July 1982), the first feature film to depict the digital world known today as the metaverse, the film’s producer Donald Kushner and his Gumbotron production team have partnered with Forj, the Animoca Brands subsidiary and Web3 tech company, to produce a new metaverse story world – Cryptosaurs.

Cryptosaurs is the “next evolution of dinosaurs,” taking audiences on a journey utilising Web3 technology that will bring each Cryptosaur character to life. The series will begin with limited edition Cryptosaur NFT ‘egg drops’ in Fall 2022, with each 3D egg offering holders the ability to ‘hatch’ their very own, completely unique, digital collectible Cryptosaur. 

Each egg is a mystery box containing a line of code. A ‘gene randomizer’ will then determine a sequence of ‘freeze-or-hatch’ events in early 2023, in which holders of the eggs will learn what species of Cryptosaur they have been awarded, and how and where it can be put to use in the metaverse.

The products the production team will make available to holders via their Cryptosaur characters are expected to include play-to-earn games, fine art, a feature film, VR and AR immersive museum exhibits, educational media, a graphic novel, and even a pinball machine.

The new digital collectible project will bring to life the vision of the original Tron film, with the characters eventually becoming avatars in the metaverse, made possible through Forj’s own metaverse infrastructure brand – Metaprints. 

The high-profile team behind the Cryptosaurs project includes Creative Director John Scheele, who has worked on both Tron and Blade Runner, and Head of Creative Doug Ferguson, former Senior VP of Product Development at The Pokémon Company.

Speaking ahead of the Tron 40th anniversary and Cryptosaurs launch, Producer Donald Kushner said: “What we began with Tron, we are continuing 40 years later with Cryptosaurs. The difference is that in Tron we had one story about one human character in a digital world. In Cryptosaurs, the number of characters, storylines and revenue-producing derivatives we can generate is unlimited. I think Web3 is going to completely re-arrange the media and entertainment business.”

Their respective communities will be whitelisted for the Social Hub pass sale and gain exclusive access to metaverse experiences. Brands and projects can interact with their fans in a virtual world with 3D assets and accessories, all managed through each project’s DAO.

What are social hubs? What can users do there?

We believe the metaverse experience should mimic real-life experiences. We are developing these social hubs to create an epicenter of all activities for real fans of the brands to gather and socialize. Within these social hubs, our brand partners will offer various events and experiences. For example, users may have the ability to:

  • Attend events (AMAs, conferences, talks, etc.)
  • Visit art galleries and music festivals
  • Collect branded items in the metaverse for a discount on a service/program in the real-world
  • Play games
  • Interact with other users and get information about what the brands are currently working on (their latest products, news, etc.)

What can these Social Hub Passes do? Do users need an Alpha pass to access the Sandbox?

  • Users only need to hold a Metaprints Social Hub pass in their wallet to access the Social Hub of the 10 affiliate projects within the Sandbox
  • No need to hold a Sandbox Alpha pass to access

Three utilities are attached to the Social Hub Pass:

  • Enjoying exclusive access to a project’s Sandbox Social Hub Experience
  • Premium Sandbox Assets whitelist + 10% discount, in the form of cashback*, applicable to the first three sales for that brand. Assets include avatars, vehicles, and items that can be used in the metaverse. More details will be announced in due course for the asset sale.
  • Vote on the creative direction of assets being created in the Sandbox for the brand(s) that you support by owning their Social Hub Pass(es).

*The 10% discount for each brand’s sale will be redeemed via ‘cashback’ in the token of purchase, airdropped to each buyer within 14 days of the sale. We will continue to investigate options to allow discounts to be applied at point of sale for users in future.

How can users benefit from the Social Hub Pass sale?

The biggest supporters and investors of each of our brand partners will now have the chance to experience each project and interact with them in a completely new way.

The exclusive access offered by the Social Hub Pass gives a select group of people the ability to interact and network with each other, participate in events of the hosting project, interact with members of the project’s team, and receive future perks and alphas offered by each project, such as potential token airdrops, exclusive access to sales or other events, and more.

In addition, sales of each brand’s Social Hub Pass will be conducted in both $BONDLY and that partner’s token, helping both communities and providing increased utility for everyone.

It should be noted that in order to enter each Social Hub experience you will require a separate NFT specific to the contract format used by The Sandbox platform. This NFT will be airdropped to Social Pass holders at a later date to be announced, prior to the launch of the branded Social Hub experiences. Please tell us something about yourself, how your crypto journey started and what inspired you to start Metaprints. What is the relationship between Metaprints, Bondly, and Animoca?

Chas: Of course! First of all my personal journey into crypto started a couple years back — i’d always been following the industry since 2015 but never truly ‘dived in’ until 2020 and just fell in love with the potential of Web3, specifically NFTs

I’ve got a background in marketing for major brands in the UK

And Metaprints (thanks @MaxiBondly!) is a project incubated at Bondly, which is part of the Animoca Brands company.

The Metaprints investment round was led by Animoca and they’re heavily involved — it’s through our relationship with them that Metaprints can bring a truly uniue service to brands looking to enter the metaverse space — like Polygon!

Chas: I should add Animoca Brands have invested in 30+ metaverse projects in the last year alone. For these projects there are high art and creative costs to onboard brands, and for brands who wish to enter metaverses there is a high perceived barrier to entry. For the creators as well there is a lack of incentive for them to design assets for brands.Metaprints seeks to solve all of these challenges in one end-to-end solution!

Using our unique positioning as the innovation hub of the Animoca Family, we can provide brands with an easy one stop shop, helping them accelerate their presence in numerous metaverse ecosystems.

Chinmay: You mentioned about Polygon branded experience, how has your experience been so far with Polygon and what made you choose Polygon in the first place?

Chas: Polygon Studios have been fantastic, for context we’ve had a partnership with polygon (as Bondly) for a long time, we’re very much aligned on the need for a fast and environmentally friendly L2 for our NFTs and Polygon is naturally the network of choice there!

Also Polygon is a pioneer in growing GameFi projects and the NFT industry, and the Polygon ecosystem comprises numerous awesome projects who are also expanding onto the chain like Decentraland and The Sandbox. This past week the city of Los Angeles hosted NFT LA 2022 at the iconic Convention Center in its hub downtown. There, crypto’s masses gathered for an inaugural foray into all things NFT through an epic IRL conference fused with immersive Metaverse integrations, and not to mention LA’s robust nightlife scene. Exploring the city of angels and journey into its new role as a global conduit for the adoption of Web3 in sports, music, art, and entertainment alongside the likes of Waka Flocka Flame, Paul Okenfold, Charlie Sheen, Pink Floyd, Mark Cuban and more!

The highlight of this eventful week was a Metaprints-sponsored NFT LA VIP experience at an exclusive Steve Aoki concert at the Wisdome, Los Angeles’ first and largest immersive art and music dome park. In attendance were some of the most influential people the city has to offer including top music executives, prolific film producers, Pink Floyd band members, some of crypto’s saviest business moguls, and yes — you guessed it — Steve Aoki himself!

The objective for this VIP experience was to educate brands on the potential of the metaverse, and show off some of the incredible work that’s already been accomplished with our genesis partners. The Metaprints VIP area (shared with Steve Aoki) featured a themed Mojito bar surrounded by TVs and multiple members of the Metaprints team placed strategically at the center of all the action. Members of Animoca Brands were also in attendance during the evening, as lead investors in the project. Early on Metaprints COO Rob Tran and CMO Chas Stanton were joined by iconic Animoca Chairman, Yat Siu!

As part of the Bondly group, Metaprints is a key component in the Animoca Brands metaverse portfolio, along with our sister company The Sandbox and other projects connected through the Animoca investment portfolio, such as Decentraland.

The Metaprints VIP reception saw influential attendees gathered from all over to watch our videos and hear more about bridging branded assets into multiple metaverses.
